Jerbourg Point

Stormy day at Jerbourg, Guernsey. Thick base of paint then pastel over top. Nice technique but impossible to fix, hairspray just blows the chalk away. If anyone has any top tips let me know.

  1. Don't fix it, leave it impermanent and transient like a sand mandala (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_mandala)...very pretty pictures anyway JC...

  2. Cheers Tom, its definitely transient or some would say disappearing, a bit like the family photo in Back to the Future. I think I need it under glass asap.

  3. Should hold ok with a proper fixative-but pastel will blow away a bit for sure. Try using oil pastels instead? I really like both the first is kind of like futurism and the prepatory sketch Is really nice-

  4. Hi James! Tried fixative before and had to redraw over the top. Pastel doesn't like that slippery surface. In the future though oil pastel sounds like a great idea. I'll give it a whirl. I'll have to go big though with those chunky sticks. Cheers
